For the first time in half a decade, a Japanese company has launched plans for a clean-burning diesel sport utility vehicle. Nissan announced that it will begin selling the X-Trail 20GT Sport in Japan on September 18.

Diesel cars have long been popular in Europe, but have virtually no market share in Japan.
