![]() Desmond Tutu, Humane Society, Harper One Team Up to Launch Green BibleSep. 19, 2008Harper One has teamed with religious leaders and environmental lobbyists for the release of its Green Bible, available on October 7. Tutu and other religious leaders, including Brian McLaren and Bishop N.T. Wright, contributed essays to the edition, which is printed on recycled paper and uses soy-based ink. The 1,000 references to the environment are highlighted in green. The lead-up has also seen social and economic groups partner with Harper to promote the release. The Humane Society, Sierra Club and Eco-Justice are among the partners. The Humane Society is incorporating its "All Creatures Great and Small" campaign into the book's launch. "Highlighting scripture from its environmental perspectives clearly shows that the Bible has much to say about our responsibilities to care for creation and all of its creatures," said Christine Gutleben, director of The Humane Society' Animals & Religion program.
